Here are our top picks for the most enjoyable fitness events taking place in and around Dublin this year. Note them in your diary and check in with the team at Gravity Fitness if you’re in need of some semi-private personal training in the run up to an event.

1. Runamuck Challenge

March 7th 2020

Runamuck’s muddy, obstacle-filled cross-country race has been around for years. Organisers continuously change up the course, which is designed to test you mentally and physically.

Runamuck is actually based in Kildare. But with the course taking you through woodlands, bogs and various open terrain, it’s well worth the hour-long drive from Dublin. It’s a few hours of fun that will leave you feeling invigorated. You can register or watch for future events here.

2. Gaelforce 10k Bray Cliff Run

April 4th

Who doesn’t love a trip on the Dart to Bray? This 10k cliff run offers some rough terrain and beautiful scenery. For those who don’t feel up for the full run, a cliff walk takes place on the same day.

Last year, the weather was glorious and our members had a great time. With this year’s prize-giving and after-party taking place in the Martello Hotel, we’re looking forward to this year’s event.

3. Wellfest Dublin

May 9th-10th

Set in the picturesque grounds of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Wellfest is a great way to get outside and enjoy the spring air. As Europe’s largest outdoor health and wellness festival, it has all sorts of fitness events going on from yoga and dance workouts, to expert Q&As and healthy food demos.

It’s a great way to meet other fitness-focused Dubliners and it will inspire you to bring outdoor activities into your workout routine.

4. Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin

August 8th-9th

Combining live music and running, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin marathon is one of Dublin’s most unique fitness events. Along the course, you can listen to live bands playing Led Zeppelin while cheer teams spur you on.

All ability levels can take part with 5k, half-marathon, 10k and family run options. As one of the Gravity Fitness community’s favourite fitness events, the day always ends with great chats and a well-deserved drink.

5. The International Liffey Descent

September

This annual event dates back to 1959 and sees participants kayak 30 kilometres from the K Club in Kildare to the Garda Boat Club in Dublin.

It attracts paddlers from around the world, many of which are competitive racers. But about two-thirds of participants are there for fun, taking their time, enjoying the scenery and aiming to stay dry until they reach the finish line.

After the race, there’s a great social atmosphere in the clubhouse. The Liffey Descent always takes place in September; watch for a specific date here.

6. Clontarf 5 Mile

November

Right on our doorstep, lots of Gravity Fitness’s members take part in the Clontarf 5 Mile race. There’s the option to do a five mile run or a half marathon. Walkers are also welcome and everyone gets a medal, so it’s open to every fitness level.

This one usually sells out fast, so you’ll want to sign up in advance. We’ll remind our members beforehand and help them prepare in our semi-private personal training sessions.

7. Dublin Santa Dash

December

For one of Dublin’s most amusing fitness events, hundreds of Santas dash along the seafront in Clontarf every year. Each entrant receives a Santa costume and they’ll only get a festive medal if they wear it. The Dublin Santa Dash is very family-friendly. It’s 5k and 10k courses are open to adults, children and walkers. The true Santa Claus is also there to give out presents.

Taking place in early December, this is a great way to exercise before the festive season takes over. For those more into cycling, The Dublin Santa Cycle usually takes place the same weekend.
